Access Bank debunks social media rumour of Wigwe’s EFCC arrest

The management of Access Bank Plc has released an official statement debunking the rumour that has made rounds on social media about the arrest of the Group Managing Director (GMD) Mr. Herbert Wigwe by the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC).

Access Bank explains that Mr Wigwe and other officials of the bank were only invited for interrogation by the Economic Financial Crime Commission (EFCC). The reason for the invitation had to do with credit facilities that was given to a company called Slok Nigeria Limited (Slok) by the defunct Diamond Bank Plc and due to the merger between Access and Diamond Bank, the Bank inherited this Slok credit.

However the Bank is optimistic that following the outcome of the engagement with EFCC that the Slok investigation has been resolved.

The Bank reaffirms its esteemed stakeholders that as an institution built on best practice that the Bank will continue to conduct its business in accordance with extant laws and regulations
