The Academic Staff Union of University (ASUU) on Wednesday called off its nine-months old strike “conditionally.”

The union has been on strike since March over demands for improved remuneration, implementation of past aggrement and working conditions.

ASUU National President, Biodun Ogunyemi made the announcement after consulting with the union’s National Executive Council in Abuja on Tuesday.

The union warned that if the Federal Government fails to comply with the agreement reached with the university lecturers, the latter will embark on strike without notice.

Ogunyemi noted that the reopening of the schools, considering the COVID-19 pandemic, lies with the Federal Government and Senate.

Mr Ogunyemi expressed readiness on the part of the University lecturers to resume provided that the Covid-19 measures are observed.

“As far as we are concerned, we are ready to resume work. Let the government do what is needed to ensure safety. We insist that the COVID-19 protocol should be observed.”
