Sir Winston Churchill”s Luxury Yacht goes on sale in France for £1.5million
Sir Winston Churchill’s luxury yacht is on sale for a cool £1.5million.
The luxury 127-ft yacht, currently based in France, features an on-board bar, a jacuzzi on the top deck and can hold up to 60 people.
It was originally built in 1936 after being commissioned by the wartime Prime Minister and has travelled 4,000 nautical miles, but underwent extensive refits in 1990 and 2005.
The boat was first called the Amazone, then Welsh Liberty and My Evangeline, before reverting to its original name.
As well as two 700 horse power engines capable of putting out 11 knots, two million euros will net the buyer a meeting room, an office and a large lounge area, as well as a Captain’s room and sunbathing area.
Both the bar and the sun lounges would have appealed to Churchill, who famously acquired two lifelong habits – siestas and Havana cigars – while living in Cuba.
But despite Amazone’s charms, Churchill preferred a newer model called Christina after he became Prime Minister in 1940.
