Group demands compensation for Nigerian’s death in Iran

A regional pressure group, the Yoruba Youth Socio-cultural Association Worldwide, has demanded compensation for the family of Dauda Onoruoiza.

Dauda Onoruoiza

Onoruoiza was among those killed when an Ukraine International Airlines Flight 752 crashed on Wednesday after takeoff from Tehran’s airport killing 176 people.

The crash came after Iran fired missiles at the Iraqi military bases housing US troops in retaliation for a drone strike at the Baghdad airport that killed Iranian commander, Qasem Soleimani. Iran had admitted that it shot the plane in error.

Onoruoiza, a staff member of Boeing, was said to have been sent on a three-month training in Ukraine on the mechanical noise of Boeing 737 – 800. In a statement by its National President, Olalekan Hammed, the association said all the family members of the over 170 victims of Boeing 737 – 800 should be compensated since Iranian government had confirmed that the plane was shot down by the country.

The statement described the action as senseless, carefree and deliberate termination of innocents’ lives by the Iranian government. It implored the Nigerian Diasporan Commission to, on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria, take necessary steps to ensure that Dauda Onoruoiza did not die in vain
