Some unknown gunmen on Thursday invaded the Orji area of Owerri in Imo State and allegedly killed three persons in different locations.

It was gathered that the operation by the gunmen started at about 05:30 pm and lasted for more than an hour, as they were seen moving around the area shooting sporadically.

Ripples Nigeria learnt that the gunmen started from the Orji axis, headed to the Spibat area, and visited other areas in the vicinity, allegedly leading to the death of three persons, a woman and two men among whom was a truck driver.

The unknown gunmen who were said to have worn all black cloths drove and walked freely in their two vehicles, a bus, and a Toyota Hilux.

Reacting to the report, the Imo state Police Public Relations Officer, Bala Elkana, said: “Normalcy has returned to Orji area by combined teams of the Police and other supporting security agencies.

“Three persons were killed by the hoodlums who blocked Orji flyover and started shooting sporadically. The cause of the shooting is still not clear at the moment. The investigation has, however, commenced.
