Staff of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) have threatened to embark on strike over the failure of the commission management to pay the new minimum wage arrears as instructed by President Buhari.
The Labour Union made their intention to go on strike known to the INEC chairman in a 3 pages letter published in the Herald Newspaper on Monday, February 17,2020.
Despite all the Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) obliging to the President’s instruction to implement the minimum wage since December 2019, INEC has refused to pay the arrears of the new salary adjustment and implement the minimum wage.
The INEC staff alleged that the commission management is insensitive to the plight of its workforce and has put the money meant for the new minimum wage in a fixed deposit account in the bank to yield interest. They also said the commission management has not paid promotion salary arrears to staff since January 2019 till December 2019.
