Traders in Oyo plead with Makinde over imposition of leaders on them

Traders under the auspices of Coalition of Traders, Artisans, Market Men and Women in Oyo State have urged Governor Seyi Makinde not to allow greedy individuals to impose leaders on them

Chairperson of the traders coalition, Chief Odunayo Kayode Danjuma, who spoke with journalists on Thursday, noted that some people she described as ‘greedy, rebels and enemies’ of Makinde administration have been going around claiming that the governor has endorsed some individuals as Babaloja and Iyaloja in the state.

Danjuma insisted that Alhaji Sunmaila Aderemi Jimoh was endorsed as Babaloja-General while Alhaja Saratu Aduke Konibaje was picked as Iyaloja-General by market leaders in the state.

She then called on traders and members of the public to ignore such insinuation that Makinde has approved Alhaji Y. K. Abass and Princess Azeezat Folashade Nurudeen as Babaloja-General and Iyaloja-General respectively in the state.

Danjuma, who doubles as Southwest Coordinator of the National Association of Nigeria Traders, described the purported endorsement of Abass and Nurudeen by Makinde as fake and baseless.

She added that leadership of each of the associations from the five geo-political zones in the state were all in attendance when the duo of Jimoh and Konibaje were endorsed and nominated.

Danjuma further said that such endorsement of Abass and Nurudeen was an attempt by greedy rebels and enemies of Makinde to discredit his administration.

She alleged that some people going around to announce the endorsement of Abass and Nurudeen were set to pitch traders against the government of Makinde.

Danjuma said, “Alhaji Sunmaila Aderemi Jimoh did not nominate himself, likewise Alhaja Saratu Aduke Konibaje.

“Both of them were nominated, approved and ratified for the positions of Babaloja-General and Iyaloja-General respectively by the Congress of Babalojas and Iyalojas, the same people that appointed the late Iyaloja-General, Alhaja Wuraola Asake Kola-Daisi, the same Congress appointed Chief (Mrs.) Justina Iyabode Ogundoyin as Acting Iyaloja-General of Oyo State late last year.

“It is impossible, Governor Seyi Makinde would not through the backdoor endorse anyone as Babaloja-General and Iyaloja-General against the will of over two million traders in Oyo State.

“Those circulating the fake news are enemies of Makinde’s administration, they are instruments/weapons of destruction used by politicians to destabilize opponents, we understand them, and we are ahead of them and their collaborators.

“We had our state meeting at Iseyin on Sunday, those who attended the meeting saw where over two million traders, artisans, market men and women belong and they will advise the governor at the appropriate time.

“Our Babalojas, Iyalojas, leadership of each of our associations, Babaloja-Generals and Iyaloja-Generals from the five zones, Ibadan, Oyo, Ogbomosho, Oke-Ogun and Ibadanland were all in attendance.”
