Dudafa said he is not aware Jonathan withdrew $47m from CBN

A former Special Assistant to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan on Domestic Affairs, Waripamo-Owei Dudafa, on Monday denied receiving a bag containing of $47m on behalf of his principal. Dudafa disagreed with the proposal by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission that the money was contained in a bag which one Col. Adegbe handed over to him to deliver to Jonathan. The ex-presidential aide said he knew nothing about the foreign currency which the EFCC claimed was withdrawn from the Central Bank of Nigeria on Jonathan’s instructions by the then National Security Adviser, Col. Sambo Dasuki (retd.).

The exchange between Dudafa and EFCC’s lawyer, Rotimi Oyedepo, took place before the Federal High Court in Lagos, where the EFCC is seeking the permanent forfeiture of the sums of $8.4m and N9.2bn said to have been recovered from Jonathan’s wife, Patience.

In his statement before the court on Monday, Dudafa told the court that the funds found in the bank account of a firm, Globus Integrated Services Limited, were not proceeds of crime but cash gifts received on various occasions by Patience while her husband was in office. A former Head of Service in Bayelsa State, Mr Fraser Ogboru, who testified earlier in Patience’s favour, told the court that he was aware when Patience was appointed as a Permanent Secretary in Bayelsa State.
