The governor of Bayelsa state, Seriake Dickson has been emerged as the new Chairman of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Governors’ Forum. A statement by the Special Adviser to the Governor on Media Relations, Fidelis Soriwei, stated that the former Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Ibrahim Dankwambo of Gombe State, announced Mr Dickson’s emergence after a meeting at the Gombe State Governors Lodge, Abuja, on Wednesday night.
He said, “The PDP Governors’ Forum is very concerned about the state of insecurity and how it affects food security as farmers are scared to go to their farms for fear of being killed or kidnapped and urges the President to declare a state of emergency on security matters,”. Some of the Governors present at the meeting were Ifeanyi Okowa of Delta, Emmanuel Udom of Akwa Ibom, Samuel Otom of Benue, Aminu Tambuwal of Sokoto, Seriake Dickson of Bayelsa and Emeka Ihedioha, Governor-elect of Imo,
Senate President Bukola Saraki; Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara; the PDP National Chairman, Uche Secondus; and PDP Vice Presidential Candidate, Peter Obi were also present at the meeting. The governors called on President Muhammad Buhari to address the serious challenge by declaring a state of emergency on security. Until his emergence as the Chairman of the PDP Governors Forum, Gov. Dickson was the Chairman of the PDP’s Standing Committee on Reconciliation. Gov.Dickson who is the Chairman of the South South Governors Forum is also co-Chairman Southern Governors Forum. Governor Dickson made serious efforts to wrest the party from disintegration during the most challenging period of its existence after its defeat in the 2015 elections.
