Yesterday the President of the Nigeria Labour Congress said they were ready to picket the Minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige over his failure to inaugurate the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF). This has brought back memories of the Labour’s struggle under Gen Sani Abacha for the Chief MKO Abiola June 12 Mandate to be actualized.

Yesterday brought back memories of Nigeria’s struggle for democracy and the actualization of the Late Chief MKO Abiola’s June 12 mandate. The NLC and NUPENG activists got severely injured while picketing the minister of Labour and Employment, Dr. Chris Ngige’s residence in Abuja.
The activists were attacked by thugs, while protesting about Nigige’s refusal to inaugurate the board of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF). After the postponement of the inauguration two weeks ago, labour unions have been protesting about the removal of Chief Frank Kokori as chairman. They had given Ngige an ultimatum till May 1st to inaugurate the board with Kokori as the chairman.
Sun Newspaper: NLC’s action against Ngige turns bloody
Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) members was attacked while picketing the home of the Minister of Labour and Employment Dr. Chris Ngige in Asokoro, Abuja.
Nine persons were severely injured and were rushed to the emergency center of the National Hospital Abuja for treatment.
The President of the NLC Ayubba Wabba had said on Tuesday that they were going to picket the minister anywhere they saw him until he inaugurates the board and former secretary of NUPENG Frank Kokori as chairman of the Nigeria Social Insurance Trust Fund (NSITF).

Rochas Okorocha the outgoing Governor of Imo State, has said the All Progressive Party has turned out the be his nemesis. He said he has suffered much worse than he would as a member of the Peoples Democratic Party.
Rochas accused Adams Oshiomhole the National Chairman of the APC and other party leaders for working with the Independent National Electoral Commission to prevent him from getting his certificate of return as the duly elected senator of Imo West senatorial district.
He however said he will continue to be a member of the party.
