Sunshine Stars Players Storm Governor’s Office To Protest over unpaid salaries

Players of Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) side Sunshine Stars on Tuesday, February 21 stormed the office of the Governor of Ondo State, Olusegun Mimiko to protest the non-payment of seven months salaries.

Ondo State are the owners of the Sunshine Stars who are 15th on the NPFL table.
The players on Friday, February 10 took to the streets to protest and were promised that their salaries will be sorted out by the deputy Governor of Ondo State, Lasisi Oluboyo.

After waiting for almost two weeks without any development, the players on Tuesday marched to the office of Mimiki to continue the protest. The players are threatening to pull out of the 2017 NPFL season if they are not paid their salaries.

The players are scared that the transition of governments in Ondo State will delay their salaries. Governor Mimiko’s government will soon give way to Governor-elect Rotimi Akeredolu. In their last game before the protest, Sunshine Stars on Sunday, February 19, got an impressive 1-1 draw away at Nasarawa United FC in matchday nine.
